New England Fish Pier Commonwealth Ice & Cold Storage Company plant is built.

It is located at 234 Northern Avenue. The largest facility of its kind in the world, it can produce 360 million tons of ice daily and store 8,000 tons. The building is damaged by a fire in January 1968 and demolished soon after.
